Pivot Multi-Arts Festival is Presented, 6/6 - 6/22

Pivot Arts launches a new celebration of innovative theater, music and dance in unique and often historic spaces from June 6 – 22, 2013 throughout Chicago's Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods. The inaugural PIVOT MULTI-ARTS FESTIVAL answers the City's call for a reinvigorated Uptown Entertainment District by uniting artists, businesses and local organizations around multidisciplinary “pop-up” performances occurring in a former Vaudeville Theater, an at-one-time Charlie Chaplin film studio and other historic spaces throughout these communities. The Russian American Foundation presents a retrospective of work by Russian-born American artist Nahum Tschacbasov (1899-1984). Curated by Marina Kovalyov, the exhibition includes over fifty paintings and will be on view June 1-16, 2013 at the National Arts Club, as part of the 11th Annual Russian Heritage Month, a celebration of events and exhibits highlighting Russian culture. Photo Flash: Sneak Peek at The Met's PUNK: CHAOS TO COUTURE, Opening 5/9

The Met's spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, runs from May 9, 2013 to August 14, 2013. It will examine punk's impact on high fashion from the movement's birth in the early 1970s through its continuing influence today. Featuring approximately one hundred designs for men and women, the exhibition will include original punk garments and recent, directional fashion to illustrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk's visual symbols. Getting away can be good for the soul. My dear friend, Michelle Black, and I hopped in a car last week and ventured down to Asheville, North Carolina to spend a couple of nights camping in the mountains. We made our trip with the intent of planning a simple workshop back home in Ohio and, instead, returned with boundless inspiration and the bones of an incredible retreat to help share some of the same discoveries we've made in our own journeys. Photo Flash: INVETERATE COMPOSITION FOR CLARE Sculpture Installed at Nashville's Frist Center

Today the Frist Center for the Visual Arts installed its newest outdoor sculpture, Inveterate Composition for Clare by Brooklyn-based artist Rachel Owens. The multimedia sculpture-composed of Humvee shells, lights and an internal sound system that emits whale sounds-is stationed at the Center's Demonbreun Street entrance; it will remain on view through August 1, 2014. Photo Flash: 2013 Mercer County Artist Award Winners Announced in New Jersey

Artistic vision comes in all colors, shapes and sizes at the Mercer County Artists exhibit now on display at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College through April 4. One-hundred-seven works by 88 artists include paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolors, as well as sculptures and mixed media collages. The second edition of Art Wynwood, the Wynwood Art District's highly anticipated international contemporary art fair hosted by Art Miami LLC, closed its doors Monday, Feb. 18, following sales by more than 90 percent of participating galleries and more than 27,500 visitors - an increase of more than 4,000 from last year's inaugural fair. Once again the five-day fair was held during President's Day Weekend coinciding with the Yacht & Brokerage Show. Photo Flash: Richard Lance Russell's Shakespeare Paintings, on View at Utah Shakes, Beg. 6/28

Every year, the Utah Shakespeare Festival works to capture the Bard's characters onstage. Oil Painter Richard Lance Russell does the same thing on canvas. This year, a solo exhibit of his paintings will be featured at the Festival. The paintings, depicting powerful scenes and memorable characters from Shakespeare's plays, will hang in the Randall L. Jones Theatre Gallery throughout the season, from June to October. An opening reception will be held on June 28th from 5:30-7:00 pm and Russell will be signing his work on June 29th from 12:45-1:45.
