Reed Danziger Presents Art Exhibition at McKenzie Fine Art, 3/29 - 4/28

Reed-Danziger-March-29-April-28-2012-20010101

McKenzie Fine Art will present an exhibition of new abstract paintings by Reed Danziger. This is the fourth solo show at the gallery for the San Francisco-based artist. It opens Thursday, March 29, with a reception for the artist from 6 to 8 p.m., and runs through Saturday, April 28, 2012.  For more information, visit:  www.mckenziefineart.com.

In earlier paintings, Reed Danziger layered visual motifs from the worlds of science, architecture, the decorative arts, and nature into densely patterned compositions. What distinguishes this new body of work is a move toward more purely abstract forms, with fewer references to the natural world. This is emphasized as well by the abandonment of a horizontal format in her paintings; here, nearly every work is set within a square field. Coalescing, overlapping, transforming, her geometric shapes and linear elements are arranged in dense compositions against scumbled and stained grounds. Possessed with a rhythmic internal energy, the paintings explore systems of interconnectedness between distinct elements as these forms contort and converge.

The artist has written the following about her new work:

In this latest group of paintings, I've continued to explore the shift towards greater abstraction through color and movement. The new work is more celestial, and the forms less clearly describe organic structures; rather they feel like the sum of entire universes. The particles that define these galaxies merge and shift, expanding and contracting, and each disruption reveals an ever increasing unpredictability. As the paintings progress, what is complex and what is simple becomes relative and continues to change with time. The tension I often feel when making the paintings is reflected in the cosmic chaos captured in each piece. As I continue to explore the folding and flexing of these abstract worlds, I allow myself to be more and more consumed by the random bursts of energy defined by the unique gravity of these paintings.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; on Saturdays the hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays are open by appointment.
