New Village Arts Launches Carlsbad Village Mural Project; Applications Due Dec 1

New Village Arts, funded by the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation through the Matt McLaughlin Fund, is organizing a special project to enhance the Carlsbad Village community with visually stunning murals. The project will demonstrate how the arts can be an energizing force not only to elevate the city's quality of life but also to create and instill a civic pride in Carlsbad. We want to expand resident and visitor participation in Carlsbad Village's current and upcoming arts activities and engage audiences throughout Carlsbad's many neighborhoods in discussions about the role of the arts in a community.

The project is being kicked-off with a request for artists; application due on December 1st. Per the request, up to six artists will be selected on December 15th as semi-finalists. Semi- finalists will then be asked to submit renderings of their mural concepts by January 15th; two “large” mural and two “small” mural finalists will be selected from these renderings. The actual murals will be executed March through May of 2013.

To apply, download the application from the Foundry page on the New Village Arts website: www.newvillagearts.org. Artists are asked to submit 3 examples of their artwork in PDF or JPEG format; past mural work is preferred but not required. All applications along with artwork examples will be submitted via email to jenna@newvillagearts.org.

New Village Arts is in its twelfth season of producing plays and has become the arts hub of the Carlsbad Village with its critically acclaimed ensemble theatre and its working artist studios, the Foundry, with 15+ local artists.

The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation is a group of benevolence-inspired citizens, who partnered with The San Diego Foundation, in an effort to help meet the emerging needs of Carlsbad by encouraging and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy by and for those living and working in the community.
