Monterey Museum Of Art to Host Works of Chuck Close

The Monterey Museum of Art's (MMA) presentation of Chuck Close: Works on Paper 1975-2012 from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation, showcases an important private collection that has never before exhibited in its entirety. Chuck Close is a revered American artist who is widely collected by major museums. In the late 1960s, Chuck Close's realistic and heroically scaled portraits of his family and friends sent shockwaves throughout the art world that are still being felt to this day.

The collector, Jordan D. Schnitzer, says, "Ultimately, I feel an artist's job is to help us see ourselves and life around us with more clarity. As for me, Chuck Close reminds me to be more patient, understanding, and empathetic, and to realize what you see on the outside is the face of a very complex person—and in Close's work— you see the portrait and thousands and thousands of characteristics within that portrait.
