MoMA Announces Film Exhibitions for November 2012

MoMA Announces Film Exhibitions for November 2012

Mapping Subjectivity: Experimentation in Arab Cinema from the 1960s to Now, Part III
November 1-25, 2012

This third and final installment of Mapping Subjectivity, organized around the theme "Transgressions," explores how filmmakers and artists from the Arab world have dealt with shifting attitudes towards sexuality and gender roles in the Middle East, and presents personal interpretations of the very real social transformations presently taking place throughout the region. Mapping Subjectivity looks into the region's largely unknown heritage of auteur, personal, and sometimes experimental film, highlighting kinships in sensibilities, approaches, and poetics across generations and countries. Works selected hail from Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, and Tunisia, and include film and video, shorts and features, documentary and fiction that reflect a diversity and richness of voices and visual languages. Several filmmakers will be in attendance to present their work. More information and screening schedule forthcoming.

The Rolling Stones: 50 Years on Film
November 15-December 2, 2012

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Rolling Stones, this retrospective traces the film careers of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood, as well as former band members Brian Jones, Mick Taylor, and Bill Wyman, both collectively and individually as composers, performers, producers, and actors. The exhibition chronicles the band from the mid-1960s until today through documentaries, fiction features, concert films, music videos, experimental shorts, and archival footage.
