Miami's Demisch Danant Presents PIERRE GUARICHE Exhibition, 12/5-9

Demisch Danant has announced that it will present Pierre Guariche, the first U.S. exhibition devoted exclusively to the work of a landmark French mid-20th century designer whose distinctive aesthetic remains enduringly influential. The showcase will be on view at the gallery's stand (G12) at DesignMiami/ from December 5 through 9, 2012.

Pierre Guariche will feature rare and significant works in two sections -- one will focus upon the years 1952-55, and another upon the period of 1958-62 -- to highlight breakthrough periods of the designer's illustrious career. Guariche emerged as part of a post-war generation bent on progress, characterized by optimism, and enthusiastic about the potentials of new industrial production techniques. Trained as an architect, the designer was admired for his particular vision of objects not as individual works but as related elements in a "total living environment" with a concertedly modern aesthetic. He is perhaps best known for commissions completed in the 1950s, including a lighting collection for Disderot and the iconic Tonneau Chair conceived for Steiner in 1954. A rare grouping of six Tonneau Chairs will be among the works on view in Pierre Guariche, along with unique cabinets, lighting, and the designer's exceptional Bureau Minvielle.

Based in Paris and New York, Demisch Danant specializes in 20th century European design with an emphasis upon furniture made during the 1950s and 1960s. The gallery features works by Maria Pergay, Pierre Paulin, Joseph André Motte, Pierre Guariche, Philippon & Lecoq, René Jean Caillette, and the Pentagon Group. It also publishes scholarly catalogues and catalogues raisonnés, and presents important exhibitions exploring the relationship between design, architecture, art, history, and popular culture. Demisch Danant also has showcased such contemporary artists by Felice Varini and Krijn de Koning.
