Performances by comedienne Lily Tomlin, country music star Clint Black, and popular dance troupe Pilobolus are among the many presentations on tap at Pepperdine University Center for the Arts during its 2012-2013 season.
"We are thrilled to bring an exciting mix of performances in dance, music, theatre, and family programming to the Center for the Arts at Pepperdine," said Rebecca Carson, the Center's managing director. "Last season, patrons from more than 600 zip codes came to Pepperdine to enjoy dynamic presentations and museum exhibitions. We are looking forward to another fantastic season!"
Among the musicians coming to Pepperdine's Malibu campus are Puerto Rican band Plena Libre on September 30, ukulele sensation Jake Shimabukuro on October 4, singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb on October 6, Canadian duo Dala on October 7, and the John Tesh Big Band on October 22.
Also appearing will be the Grammy-winning vocal group Take 6 in their holiday show on November 30, bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent on January 16, Clint Black on January 20, singer-songwriter Marc Cohn on January 22, the Campbell Brothers--combining gospel vocals and steel guitar--on February 7, folk-music icon Peter Yarrow on March 3, the Los Angeles Master Chorale on May 9, and Sweet Honey In The Rock on May 11.
Lily Tomlin takes the stage on September 28, and two "Whose Live Anyway?" shows on October 19 will feature the hilarious improvisation of Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Chip Esten, and Jeff B. Davis.
Television and stage star Melora Hardin (The Office, Chicago) combines humor and song standards in her Pepperdine debut on January 10.
Dance offerings will include Aspen Santa Fe Ballet on October 11, Pilobolus on February 26, and California's own Pacifico Dance Company on April 28. The StepCrew, a Canadian group of dancers and musicians, combines tap and Irish step-dancing in a high-octane show on April 17.
The Recital Series, which showcases the talents of young classical musicians, includes performances by Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medalist Haochen Zhang on October 7, violinist Rachel Lee on November 18, cellist Sebastian Baverstam on February 10, and Parkening International Guitar Competition Gold Medalist Petrit Ceku on a date yet to be announced.
