LIC Arts Open Festival Takes Over Queens, 5/12-20

New exhibitions are popping up all over Long Island City at the LIC Arts Open. During the largest art festival in Queens, you'll find spaces ranging from traditional studios to unconventional found locations as artists make the neighborhood their gallery from May 12-20.

Kicking off the festival's art lineup is the LIC Arts Open Launch Party hosted by Reis Studios in celebration of their 10-year anniversary. The event features an opening reception for the 10" x 10" exhibition with artwork created by over 100 artists from LIC, all on 10" x 10" wooden boards. The Gotham Center Exhibition features everything from sculpture and painting to video/multi-media work including pieces from Beth Williams and William Garret, Peter Goldwater, Peter Rosenthal, Eliot Lable,

Also not to be missed are SculptureCenter's Bill Bollinger Retrospective, Sculptor/Mosaicist Karen Kettering Dimit at LIC Arts Center Gallery, and the Salazar Artists at Diego Salazar Gallery, to name a few.

Rounding out this vibrant cultural landscape are installments at MoMA P.S. 1 (including a Kraftwerk Retrospective), photography and painting at The Industry, the "Reductive" Opening at Jeffrey Leder Gallery, work by the Freecycling Group at Jackson 1, Chuck Baker's photography and Stephen Woods' multimedia work at The Store, and artist Lizbeth Nieves at Attic Studios.

And don't forget to make your way over to Arris Lofts, LIC Market, and the incredible array of work presented at multiple Vernon Blvd Venues.

Check the online brochure for a complete listing of installments. There you'll find dates (some of these events run through August) as well as location information and artist details.

The LIC Arts Open was founded when two artists based in the LIC Arts Center building on 23rd street discussed how the yearly Open Studios event had the potential to be more than just a two-day celebration of fine arts. For further information about the festival and a schedule of events, please visit www.licartsopen.org.

*LIC Arts Open is under the fiscal sponsorship of Fractured Atlas.
