Fisher Landau Center for Art is pleased to announce "LEGACY: Selections from Emily Fisher Landau's Gift to the Whitney Museum of American Art", on view through September 12th, 2011. Occupying all three floors at the Center, the exhibition highlights an overview of the historic pledge of artwork by Mrs. Landau, consisting of 419 pieces by 86 artists who have shaped the course of American Art. The installation is inspired by the Whitney Museum's recent "Legacy" exhibition organized by Donna De Salvo and David Kiehl. The intimate setting of the Fisher Landau Center for Art allows for an expanded presentation of Mrs Landau's pledge, displaying more than 100 artworks by over 60 artists including:

Ricci Albenda, Carl Andre, Richard Artschwager, John Baldessari, Matthew Barney, John Beerman, Forest Bess, Nayland Blake, James Brown, Peter Cain, Greg Colson, Gregory Crewdson, Lynn Davis, Willem De Kooning, Burgoyne Diller, John Dugdale, Carroll Dunham, William Eggleston, Barbara Ess, Eric Fischl, Robert Gober, Nan Goldin, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, April Gornik, Rodney Graham, Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer, Peter Hujar, Michael Hurson, Neil Jenney, Jasper Johns, Cletus Johnson, Jon Kessler, Win Knowlton, Joseph Kosuth, Barbara Kruger, Annette Lemieux, Sherrie Levine, Glenn Ligon, Robert Mapplethorpe, Agnes Martin, John McLaughlin, Daniel Oates, Tom Otterness, Martin Puryear, Robert Rauschenberg, Susan Rothenberg, Allen Ruppersberg, Ed Ruscha, Lawrence Seward, Lorna Simpson, Kiki Smith, Mark Tansey, Al Taylor, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, David Wojnarowicz, Steve Wolfe, Jamie Wyeth & Lisa Yuskavage.

Housed in a former parachute harness factory, the 25,000 square foot museum designed by Max Gordon in association with Bill Katz, is devoted to the exhibition and study of the contemporary art collection of Emily Fisher Landau. The core of the 1,500 work collection spans 1960 to the present and contains key works by artists who have shaped the most significant art of the last 50 years.

Emily Fisher Landau's insightful selection of works by contemporary masters, many of which she bought from the artists early in their careers, is reflected in exhibitions presented at the Fisher Landau Center for Art. Her ongoing commitment to emerging artists extends to the annual presentation of the Columbia University School of Visual Arts MFA Thesis Exhibition.
