Celebrate Valentine's Day at the Museum of Sex, 2/14

F*ck Art: A Street Occupation at the Museum of Sex
In response to the growing anti-institution sentiment pervasive in our culture, the Museum of Sex has engaged a group of select street artist to occupy the museum's third floor gallery. Expanding upon existing notions of the museum-going experience by pushing the boundaries of what artists create in a museum environment. Artist have mined the fringes of society and used the gallery space as a forum to create critical, provocative commentary around sexuality and its relationship to both human and cultural identity

The Sex Lives of Animals
This exhibition reveals sex is more than the drive to reproduce. The expanding knowledge of the natural world has revealed that animals participate in an astonishing array of sexual behaviors, where all conceivable sex acts and sexual partnerships exist. Animals engage in foreplay behaviors such as kissing, hugging, mutual and self-stimulation, oral sex and every kind of penetrative intercourse imaginable. Sex in the animal kingdom is just as complex and nuanced as it is for humans, and pleasure, it seems, is not restricted to the human realm.

Also currently on display at the Museum are works from Keith Haring's Bad Boys series, David Datuna's Flower of Life, and The Sex Lives of Robots installation by Mike Sullivan.

The mission of the Museum of Sex is to preserve and present the history, evolution and cultural significance of human sexuality. Take an educational journey to the epicenter of human sexuality and explore this 14,000 square foot museum displaying hundreds of artifacts on sexuality from leading scholars, artists, and from the museum's Permanent Collection. With each new exhibition, this museum is committed to addressing a wide range of once taboo topics, while simultaneously highlighting material and artifacts from different cultures, time periods and media.

In a short time, the Museum has received attention from academic institutions, media outlets, and celebrities such as Howard Stern, Jay Leno, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Chris Rock - positioning the Museum of Sex within the realm of both academia and pop culture alike. After visiting the museum's multiple exhibitions, enjoy cocktails in the Bar at the Museum of Sex and explore the retail store to shop for that unique souvenir. All patrons (over 18) are welcome and photography is permitted throughout the museum. In a city that never sleeps, the Museum of Sex is constantly evolving and has no plans to slow down.
