CYNTHIA-REEVES PROJECTS Presents SOFA New York

CYNTHIA-REEVES Projects is proud to present work in diverse media at New York's Sculptural Objects and Functional Art (SOFA) fair at the Park Avenue Armory, New York, NY. Following the success of Jaehyo Lee's debut at Sotheby's, at this month's Hong Kong Contemporary Asian Art sale, CYNTHIA-REEVES Projects presents a series of new sculptural art forms from the artist's South Korean studio, along with an iconic work of his previously featured at New York's Museum of Arts and Design. In one body of work, Lee fashions exposed wood grain logs into unexpected functional art forms; in a second, he uses sumptuously charred wood embellished with highly polished stainless steel nails, shaped to evoke calligraphic forms. A mid-career retrospective of these two modes of working is currently on view at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.

CYNTHIA-REEVES Projects is also featuring functional art by American sculptor, Jonathan Prince, fabricated in solid black granite. Prince's sculpture, Cog, references the iconic form of Greco-Roman fluted columns and incorporates metal leafing on the top surface. The artist's Lightbox sculpture was recently acquired in the noted collection of 20th and 21st Century art of Julie and Edward J. Minskoff, and is currently on view at New York's IBM Building on Madison Avenue.

Painting and works on paper, by both domestic and International Artists, compliments the three-dimensional artwork. These works include abstracted landscapes by the young Brooklyn painter, Allison Gildersleeve, who documents the New England landscape of her childhood with a vibrant use of fresh color and energized brushwork.

A foil for Gildersleeve's work is found in Anne Lindberg's precise and restrained series of graphite line drawings on cotton mat board. With every inhalation and exhalation Lindberg takes, she lays down a vertical line on her surfaces, effectively using art-making as a personal form a meditation. The abstract works evoke seismographs and sound waves, among many other associations. The artist's latest museum showing at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art earned a key Critic's Pick in the February 2011 issue of ARTnews.

SOFA fair hours: Thursday 11 - 7, Friday 11 - 6, Saturday 11 - 7, Sunday 12 - 6
