On November 3, celebrate the special exhibition Jean-Michel Othoniel: My Way, which explores themes surrounding beauty, body, desire, memory, and metamorphosis. The Museum's Target First Saturday event attracts thousands of visitors to free art and entertainment programs each month. November highlights include:

5 p.m. Music: Brooklyn-based dream pop band Slowdance combines 1970s synthwave, disco, and surf rock.

6 p.m. Performances: Shade of Trees Theater presents The Blue Belt, a folk tale about transformation told with music and shadow puppets. Dancers from The Ailey School present a performance inspired by themes in Othoniel's exhibition.

6 p.m. Curator Talk: Curator Lisa Small unlocks the magic and mystery of My Way.

6-9 p.m. Sensory Talks: Using touch, smell, and sound, Museum Guides and educators lead lively discussions of works in the Museum's collection.

6:30 p.m. Music: Jarana Beat fuses elements of Mexico's African and Amerindian traditions with salsa, cumbia, and contemporary music.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Hands-on Art: Explore the translucent qualities of glass by decorating a delicate bauble with transparent paints.

7 p.m. Forum: Two artists from Brooklyn's Urban Glass, a center for the creation and promotion of glass art, discuss their work and contributions to the Glass Performance Art Film Festival. An Urban Glass trunk show will be held in the Museum Shop from 12 to 5 p.m.

8-10 p.m. Interactive Space: Experiment with origami and contribute to a collective art project.

7:30 p.m. Book Club: Ruth Bottigheimer, author of Fairy Tales: A New History, speaks about the origins of beloved fables and stories.

8 p.m. Film: Between the Folds (Vanessa Gould, 2010, 91 min.). In this story about the pursuit of beauty, artists use the unlikely medium of origami to explore their creative potential.

8:30 Music: Brooklyn-based fantasy rock band Savoir Adore plays lush, dreamy songs from their new album, Our Nature.

8:30 p.m. Light Show: A projection of Cosmic Morning, a psychedelic light art project by Brooklyn-based visual artist and educator Don Miller.

8:30 p.m. Participatory Program: Create an Othoniel-inspired necklace and dedicate it to the memory of a loved one.

9 p.m. Dance Performance: Cori Olinghouse presents Ghost Lines, an experimental dance that conjures memories and dreams of the past.

Throughout the evening, a cash bar will offer beer and wine, and the Museum Café will serve a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, and beverages. The Museum Shop will remain open until 11 p.m.

Museum admission is free from 5 to 11 p.m. and includes entrance to all galleries and events. Programs subject to change without notice. Some Target First Saturday programs have limited space and are ticketed on a first-come, first-served basis. Lines for free tickets often form thirty minutes in advance. For more information, visit www.brooklynmuseum.org. Parking is a flat rate of $5 from 5 to 11 p.m.
