Andrea Rosen Gallery today announced the representation of the artist Ryan Trecartin.

Trecartin's work "proposes a fundamental shift in our understanding of culture. His movies—known for their dense, intensely layered narratives and frenetic pacing—are underwritten by an exploration of language: how it is dispatched in the service (or collapse) of communication, interaction, and the formation of a mutable, decentralized self. In that exploration, Trecartin disposes with the hierarchies that have fixed the understandings of our positions in culture, and offers in its place an ever-expanding set of possibilities from which to draw.

"A significant layer of Trecartin's work is the mining of the unique strengths of a myriad of collaborators, especially his priMary Collaborator Lizzie Fitch, who has been a cornerstone of Trecartin's work and creative process since first meeting in 2000. While the solo practices and collaborative practice are autonomous, they interrelate in a variety of ways, with one often housing the other or by mutually influencing one another by virtue of their proximity."

Trecartin's work has been the subject of several solo museum exhibitions in the United States and internationally—including Ryan Trecartin/Lizzie Fitch at Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2011–12); Ryan Trecartin: Any Ever at venues including MoMA P.S. 1, Long Island City, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, Istanbul Modern, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and The Power Plant, Toronto (2011–10); Ryan Trecartin: I-Be Area, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles and the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus (2008). His work is held in numerous prominent public collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Fondazione Prada in Milan, the Francois Pinault Foundation in Venice, Sammlung Goetz in Munich, the Rubell Family Collection in Miami, Julia Stoschek Collection in Dusseldorf, New Art Trust in San Francisco, and the Zabludowicz Collection in London. Trecartin's work was included in the Whitney Biennial and USA Today at The Saatchi Gallery in London in 2006, followed by numerous other important group exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad, such as Younger Than Jesus—the first edition of the New Museum's triennial. In 2015, Trecartin will return to the New Museum, but this time as co-curator of the next New Museum triennial along with Lauren Cornell, adjunct curator at the institution. Trecartin is also represented by New Galerie in Paris.
