In conjunction with its major exhibition Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World, the American Museum of Natural History hosts one of New York City's most intimate concert series. At the end of their epic journey along the Silk Road, guests will be treated to live performances with musicians brought together by Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project playing music inspired by the storied trading route. After each show, visitors will have the opportunity to discuss music and culture with the musicians.

Percussion legend Glen Velez and rhythm-voice virtuoso Lori Cotler perform
using mystical overtone singing and lightning-fast drum language in a unique
musical style derived from the exhilarating sounds of the Middle East, Central
Asia, and India.

The Silk Road Project Presents Mike Block (cello), Hadi Eldebeck (oud),
and Tareq Abboushi (buzuq)
This trio will perform traditional music from Lebanon as well as new music
that combines Arabic and western styles.

The Silk Road Project Presents Ljova and the Kontraband
Composer and violinist Ljova and the Kontraband plays a genre-defying blend of original chamber jam music inspired by gypsy melodies, jazz, and balkan rhythms.

The Silk Road Project Presents Neel Murgai Ensemble
The Neel Murgai Ensemble performs a unique blend of Indian and western traditions, dubbed raga chamber-jazz. Their music is rooted in the North Indian classical system but influenced by minimalism, jazz, free-improvisation and more. They offer this performance in celebration of the 63rd anniversary of Indian independence.
Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World, which is
open through August 15, brings to life the most celebrated trade route in human
history through evocative sights, sounds, and artifacts as well as intriguing
interactives.
Made possible through major funding from MetLife Foundation, Traveling the
Silk Road transports visitors to four ancient cities: Xi'an, the capital of China's
Tang Dynasty; Turfan, a verdant oasis and trading outpost along the Silk Road;
Samarkand, a center for prosperous merchants who thrived on the caravan trade;
and ancient Baghdad, a cosmopolitan hub of commerce and scholarship that flourished as a leading intellectual center of the time.
