Adelaide Festival Centre Announces Upcoming Exhibitions

Adelaide Festival Centre Announces Upcoming Exhibitions

Adelaide Festival Centre will present a range of exhibitions during February in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Festival Theatre and the centenary of Her Majesty's Theatre. These exhibitions will celebrate South Australian ceramics, revered composer Richard Wagner and his great musical drama, and documentary photography showcasing the seldom seen areas of the Festival Centre.

2013 marks an incredibly significant event: the 40th year anniversary for both Adelaide Festival Centre and Adelaide's Jam Factory. To celebrate this, Stirring The Pot will bring together leading South Australian ceramic artists who vigorously sought their artistic voice in the rebellious 70s. Featured artists include Margaret Dodd, Jeffery Mincham AM, Christopher Headley,
Jo Wilmot, Liz Williams, and Silvia Stansfield, many of who were instrumental in establishing the Jam Factory and continue to exert their influence.

The Festival Theatre has played a starring role in two productions of The Ring Cycle. In 1998, State Opera of South Australia brought to the Festival Theatre the Théâtre du Chatelet's 1994 Paris production of The Ring Cycle. In 2004, State Opera created the first fully Australian production of The Ring Cycle. Wagner's masterpiece is one of the most complex and demanding operas to stage, both artistically and technically, and Wagner, the Ring and Us will celebrate these momentous productions and the bicentenary of the German composer's birth through a display of costumes, set models and designs, props, and photos.

An exhibition of photography by Neville Cichon will display rare insights into the nostalgia, humour and mechanics of the iconic performance spaces at Adelaide Festival Centre. Over a two year period, Adelaide documentary photographer Neville Cichon walked the stages, greenrooms, corridors and catwalks throughout the Festival Centre and Her Majesty's Theatre to capture the rarely seen backstage areas. The resulting photos have been collected into Neville Cichon: Backstage Pass. This exhibition is one of many events in 2013 that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Festival Theatre and centenary of Her Majesty's Theatre.
