9/11 Museum Displays Daniel Kohn's TOWARDS NEW JERSEY at Cipriani Wall Street, 9/4

Cynthia-Reeves has announced that The National September 11 Memorial & Museum has chosen to prominently display Daniel Kohn's "Towards New Jersey" at Cipriani, on Wall Street, during their annual gala on September 4th, 2012.

The painting is from Kohn's "Seen from Above," a pair of monumental murals commissioned by the MTA to recapture the Eastern and Western views from the upper floors of the Trade Center. All who worked in the Towers experienced these views-breathtaking for their astounding height, the magnitude of the image they framed, and the vibrant city that lay below- as part of their daily routines.

Kohn was an artist in residence in Tower One from 1998-1999 as part of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's residency program, 'World Views.' In the spring of 2002, Kohn reconstructed the stunning views on a monumental scale, utilizing sketches, paintings, and observations made during his residency in Tower One. Kohn displayed the paintings, along with an original sound track by Chris Thompson and Howard Harrison, in Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbilt Hall under the title "Seen from Above, A Place for Contemplation."

On September 4th, the 9/11 Museum will display a portion of "Towards New Jersey," the western half of "Seen from Above," on the mezzanine. These paintings allow not only for reflection upon a lost view, but also celebration in the magnitude and beauty of the greater metropolitan landscape.

This fall, the Museum will formally open as the country's principal institution concerned with exploring the implications of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and documenting the impact and continuing significance of these events. The Museum is located at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.

Cynthia-Reeves formally thanks Sandra Bloodworth from the MTA for making original installation possible and Jan Ramirez with the 9/11 Museum for selecting the work for the gala. This will be the first installation of these stunning canvases since their debut at Vanderbilt Hall.
