Yale School of Art Presents New Work by Jac Leirner, Now thru 9/30

(May. 14 7:35 PM) - The Yale School of Art presents an exhibition of new work by Brazilian conceptualist and sculptor Jac Leirner, one of the leading figures in the generation of Latin American artists that emerged in the 1990s. Titled Hardware Seda - Hardware Silk, the exhibition comprises an ensemble of hanging, freestanding, and wall-mounted sculptures, as well as a group of polychrome wooden floor-pieces and a series of watercolors related to them.

Nashville's Frist Center Offers Free Admission on International Museum Day, Armed Forces Day, 5/18-19

(May. 14 5:04 PM) - The Frist Center for the Visual Arts will offer free admission on Friday, May 18, 2012 as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) Art Museum Day coinciding with International Museum Day, also on May 18. Additionally, the Frist Center will offer free admission to active duty military and veterans and their families on Saturday, May 19 in honor of Armed Forces Day.

Little, Laurie Anderson, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Toshi Reagon; choreographers Benjamin Millepied, Richard Alston, Vusi Mdoyi, Jasmin Vardimon; directors Robert Wilson and Romeo Castellucci are among the highlights of the 2012/13 Peak Performances season. 'Northern Broadsides - 20 years- photography by Nobby Clark' will run in Dean Clough's Crossley gallery from 26 May-16 September.

This is the third consecutive year Lelong will participate in ART HK.

Trisha Brown Dance Company's ASTRAL CONVERTED to Play Park Avenue Armory

(May. 11 1:21 PM) - Park Avenue Armory will present Trisha Brown Dance Company’s reconstruction of ASTRAL CONVERTED, a groundbreaking work by choreographer Trisha Brown in collaboration with Robert Rauschenberg (visual and costume design) and John Cage (original music) July 10th – 14th, 2012. The piece will be presented in its entirety for the first time in 18 years in Park Avenue Armory’s soaring 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall. The culminating work in Brown’s Valiant Series, ASTRAL CONVERTED premiered at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in 1991.

New York City Public School Students' Artwork on View at Guggenheim Museum, Now thru 6/13

(May. 11 12:30 AM) - In its 41st year, Learning Through Art (LTA), a pioneering arts education program of the Guggenheim Museum, presents A Year with Children 2012, an exhibition organized by the Sackler Center for Arts Education at the Guggenheim Museum and on view at the museum from today, May 11 to June 13, 2012. This annual exhibition showcases select artworks by students in grades two through six from eleven public schools who participated in LTA during the 2011–12 school year, representing New York City’s five boroughs. Approximately one hundred creative and imaginative works, including drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures, paintings, assemblage, and outdoor site-specific art, will be on display during this five-week installation.
